Project specifications

The Boronggook Drysdale Library was opened in May 2023 and features a unique circular design, planted with sloping green roofs. The roof garden is the first of its kind in the Greater Geelong region, and covers an area of 544 square metres. With a 45 degree outward slope that forms a funnel, Fytogreen used a Geoweb cellular confinement system to support the soil and plants. Home to more than 4,770 plants from 18 different native species, the green roof creates a natural habitat for birds, bees, and butterflies. The roof garden also extends to the facade of the library, facing the public parkland. The green roof contributes to the library’s environmental sustainability performance credentials, which also include resource-efficient systems that utilises the site collection of storm water for irrigation in a large underground tank, and a planting palette that is regenerative and self-sustaining providing enhanced biodiverse habitat. It was developed in collaboration with the City of Great
